BBC Films celebrates its 25th with new slate

To mark their 25th anniversary, the ever-fabulous BBC Films has officially announced its current slate of projects – some in early development such as Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell’s adaptation of David Copperfield, and some much closer to filming, such as the Colin Firth-starrer about ill-fated amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst.

Next up in terms of cameras rolling on BBC Films projects though, and beating Swallows and Amazons by just a few weeks, is City of Tiny Lights, the big screen adaptation by Patrick Neate from his novel of the same name. The film is produced by Ado Yoshizaki, Charles Steel and Rebecca O’Brien. Pete Travis directs.

The contemporary detective thriller is set against the backdrop of London’s criminal underbelly and is set to star Riz Ahmed and Cush Jumbo. Shoot dates are listed on Production Intelligence, along with hires such as casting director, production designer and line producer.

Keep an eye on Production Intelligence for updates on all BBC Films’ projects; to give you an example of our advance news, we have had Swallows and Amazons – starring Rafe Spall – listed since our launch in 2011.

BBC Films has become an important yardstick for the UK film industry , with their diverse range of projects constantly providing plenty of work for our talented crew. So, to all the lovely folk at BBC Films, we say Happy Birthday and here’s to the next 25 years…
