Tulip Fever wraps in the UK
Filming has just finished on Tulip Fever, Ruby Films‘ big screen adaptation of Deborah Moggach’s historical novel.
Dame Judi Dench
The feature comes with a pretty hefty raft of A-listers attached, both in front of and behind the camera. Justin Chadwick (Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom, The Other Boleyn Girl) directs from a screenplay by Sir Tom Stoppard; Ruby’s Alison Owen produces.
There is certainly an amazing line-up of talent on display, with Dame Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz, Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Zach Galifianakis, Jack O’Connell, Tom Hollander, Matthew Morrison, Holliday Grainger and David Harewood all on board. And having recently made her TV debut in Timeless, Cara Delevingne also puts in an appearance, as does It Girl du jour Cressida Bonas.
Christoph Waltz
The plot centres on Cornelis Sandvoort (Waltz), a wealthy Dutch man whose fortune has been made through the trade in tulips – a potentially lucrative but risky market in 17th century Amsterdam.
Dane DeHaan
When his beautiful young wife (Vikander) begins to get bored, he tries to hold her attention by commissioning a handsome young painter (DeHaan) to paint her portrait.
Alicia Vikander
The book was Moggach’s first historical novel, and she has described is as her “love-letter to Dutch painting and that lost world of serene and dreamy domestic interiors.”
The film, which was in gestation for around ten years, but finally made with the backing of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, used some beautiful locations for filming including Norwich Cathedral, Holkham (north Norfolk) Kentwell Hall (Essex).
