Follows the success of The Thursday Murder Club on the streamer

Richard Osman’s novel We Solve Murders is being developed as a TV series with Netflix, the author and presenter has revealed.

Appearing on BBC1’s The One Show last week (2 September), Osman said the streamer was adapting his novel, which is separate to his bestselling Thursday Murder Club novels.

When asked by presenter Alex Jones about how solid the project was with the streamer, Osman replied: “Well, I can’t say, but yes. Certainly, that’s what we’re up to at the moment with our friends at Netflix.”

He added he expects he will be “very involved” in the series.

We Solve Murders follows Amy Wheeler, a private security operative who teams up with her retired detective father-in-law Steve Wheeler, after three clients from her security firm are murdered.

The pair go on the run with her current client, a celebrity novelist, and the three embark on a global search to uncover who is behind the killings.

Osman, who was promoting the sequel novel to We Solve Murders, was tight-lipped on further details, though noted the international element of the book.

“We Solve Murders, you’re in St Lucia, you’re in the south of Ireland. They’re really beautiful places, so it’s going to look amazing, I’ll say that,” he added.

Netflix previously adapted Osman’s first novel The Thursday Murder Club as a film, produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, Jennifer Todd Pictures and Maiden Voyage, directed by Chris Columbus and exec produced by Spielberg.

The film, which starred Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley and Pierce Brosnan, accrued 9.5m viewers in the first 28 days of its launch on 28 August 2025.
