Filming begins in Belfast today on the second series of Warner Horizon”s Superman prequel series Krypton.

The production is once again based at Belfast Harbour Studios – the previous series was the first major production to use the new facility last autumn.

The site comprises two sound stages of round 36,000 sq ft each, which can be opened up to create a single filming space.

The Syfy drama is set two generations before the destruction of Superman”s home planet and stars Cameron Cuffe (pictured) as Superman”s grandfather Seg-El. Series One was the most-watched debut season of all scripted series on the network since sci-fi western drama Defiance in 2015.

Krypton is executive produced by David S Goyer through his company Phantom Four, alongside Cameron Welsh who is also showrunner.

Belfast”s international filming profile was boosted when HBO”s fantasy drama Game of Thrones first set up at the city”s Titanic Studios eight years ago.

This summer Northern Ireland hosted several major new productions including feature film Normal People, starring Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville, BBC Two”s modern slavery drama Doing Money, and Death and Nightingales, a three-part period drama starring Jamie Dornan and Matthew Rhys. The fifth series of Line of Duty is currently filming in the region.
