Prominent filming locations include Coalhouse Fort

FilmFixer is inviting film, television, commercial and photographic productions to explore the range of locations available across Thurrock, following the launch of its filming service with Thurrock Council earlier this year.

Situated along the north bank of the River Thames and within easy reach of London, Thurrock offers a mix of industrial landscapes, working riverside environments, historic sites and large-scale open spaces — giving productions a breadth of looks within a single borough.

Among its most prominent filming locations is Coalhouse Fort, the Victorian coastal defence site whose tunnels, fortifications and riverside setting have previously drawn major productions. Across the wider borough, docks, industrial architecture, waterside locations and open landscapes present opportunities for productions seeking scale, character and environments that can prove difficult to source closer to central London.

FilmFixer manages filming and photography enquiries on behalf of Thurrock Council, supporting productions with location access, permissions and on-the-ground shoot delivery. The service is open to projects of all sizes, from major film and television productions to commercials, photography, and independent, charity and student shoots.

Leading the service are Film Officers Rachel Aldridge and Jim Horsfield, who bring around a decade of experience managing a regional film office between them. Their expertise ensures productions benefit from hands-on support from first enquiry through to shoot delivery.

FilmFixer Chairman Andrew Pavord said: “Thurrock has a really strong visual identity, with a scale and character that’s hard to replicate elsewhere so close to London. There’s a huge amount here for location teams to explore, and we’re keen to help more productions discover what the borough can offer.”

The partnership is also bringing FilmFixer’s Set Ready programme to Thurrock — a free training initiative supporting local people into careers in film and television, while helping connect filming activity with opportunities for residents.
