The project had been in development for a while, with country locations having been under discussion.

Feature film Flavia De Luce has locked down a UK shoot, with the new tax relief for indies of up to £15m helping secure the location.

Producer Chris Curling exclusively told The Knowledge: “The new tax relief has made all the difference to us; it’s one of the reasons we got greenlit.”

The UK Independent Film Tax Credit of up to 40% for qualifying UK films with budgets up to £15m was introduced as part of this year’s Spring Budget, and squeezed through as part of the 2024 Finance Bill in late May before Parliament was dissolved ahead of the swiftly-called General Election.

Bharat Nalluri is in the director’s chair on Flavia De Luce, with filming beginning in early October in the Reading/Guildford area; it will shoot entirely on location.

Molly Belle Wright plays Flavia; Martin Freeman co-stars.

The film is adapted from the best-selling series of books by Alan Bradley about quick-witted, 11 year-old Flavia, an amateur detective and chemistry fan with an interest in poison, who sets about solving mysteries in her small English village.
