BBC Studios Drama Productions has launched two new TalentWorks schemes offering development opportunities on flagship drama Casualty for directors and writers.

The Casualty Directors’ Scheme is designed to give eight established directors the opportunity work on Casualty during two bootcamp weekends at the show’s home in Roath Lock, Cardiff.

Up to four successful candidates will then be chosen to direct an episode, with the support of an established mentor director.

The Writers’ Studio: Casualty is an open script call for screenwriting talent looking to take the next step in their writing career and join the ranks of the Casualty writing team. Ten writers will have the opportunity to write shadow scripts and up to four will be commissioned to write an episode.

Kris Green, training executive for BBC Studios Drama Productions, will oversee both schemes which are run in partnership with BBC Public Service.

Green said: “Training sits at the heart of our culture at BBC Studios Drama Productions and we’re so excited to be able to invite fresh talent to join the amazing creative team of our beloved medical drama. These two extraordinary opportunities have been designed to teach promising new voices how to deliver appointment-to-view, Saturday night television.”
