Four Wales-based screenwriters were selected from 350 scripts for the inaugural scheme

Bad Wolf has revealed the successful participants of its inaugural Blaidd Writers Programme in partnership with Screen Alliance Wales, with additional support from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales.

Bad Wolf – known for high-profile series like Doctor Who and His Dark Materials – launched this initiative to support emerging writers from Wales. The announcement took place at Wolf Studios Wales in Cardiff, to confirm the four chosen writers.

The programme marks Bad Wolf’s 10th anniversary and seeks to elevate new Welsh voices in drama. Out of over 350 submissions, the four writers will work on developing original dramas set in Wales, receiving guidance from well-known showrunners, including Russell T Davies and Jack Thorne.

The selected writers are:

  • Alyn Farrow: A Cardiff writer recognised for his crime drama ‘Westphalia’ and recipient of the BAFTA Rocliffe Drama Award
  • Emily Burnett: BAFTA-winning actor and filmmaker, known for her short film ‘Mother’s Day’ and her upcoming play ‘Nuclear’
  • Faebian Averies: A writer whose crime drama ‘The Rubber Faced Men’ is under option with NBC Universal
  • Mared Jarman: Writer of BBC series ‘How This Blind Girl…’ and host of ‘The History of Disability in Wales’

Jane Tranter, CEO of Bad Wolf and Dan McCulloch, director of content, added: “The calibre of talent that applied for Blaidd was inspiring and has reinforced Bad Wolf’s desire to continue championing Wales, its creative community, writers and its stories.

“Bad Wolf is very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Faebian, Alyn, Emily and Mared and we’re grateful they have trusted us to embark on this journey with them.”
