Matt Charman’s high-stakes thriller sees Izuka Hoyle returning

Sky action thriller Prisoner is returning for a second series.

The Izuka Hoyle and Tahar Rahim-fronted thriller will come back for a further six episodes with Hoyle reprising her role as prison transport office Amber Todd.

In the first series, which is currently airing on Sky Atlantic, Todd was tasked with escorting trained killer and high-value inmate Tibor to court to testify against an elite crime syndicate, but their envoy was brutally ambushed, leaving the pair handcuffed together and on the run.

The second series will expand the world of Prisoner, with Todd returning to duty but still carrying the weight of past events. Tasked with escorting a polarising US academic turned notorious killer for extraction, an attempted execution from within law enforcement sees Todd framed for murder.

Prisoner is created and written by Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman and produced by Binocular Productions in association with Sky Studios. Charman is showrunner and is joined by Sophie Petzal as writer on S2. Both are also exec producers alongside Foz Allan and Adrian Sturges for Sky Studios.

Production is to begin later this year and will be available on Sky in the UK and Ireland with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling international rights.
