Creative England returns with Compass
Creative England has launched the second round of Compass, an intensive business development programme for executives, producers and entrepreneurs to help them build, manage and lead successful film companies.
Compass is run in collaboration with training provider DV Talent. The scheme is designed to help businesses develop their ambitions for growth, encourage original thinking, and combine creative and entrepreneurial skills.
The programme is supported through Creative England’s Film Enterprise Fund which is investing £2 million over four years to improve the growth and sustainability of film-related businesses in England outside of Greater London.
Central to the training is the development of a business proposal under the guidance of Professor John Bates, fellow in strategy & entrepreneurship at London Business School. It also includes sector-specific sessions and workshops led by key industry figures.
During the programme, participants will be given the tools to develop and implement effective business plans; successfully leverage key funding streams; navigate the changing legal and regulatory environment; and produce and package content in an evolving industry landscape.
Chris Moll, head of film at Creative England, said: “The first Compass programme was a great success, and helped a diverse group of producers to navigate the challenges involved in an ever-changing film industry.
“For 2015 it’s exciting that we’re able to open the programme up to entrepreneurs across the film value chain, throughout development, production, sales, distribution, exhibition, emerging content markets and beyond.”
Compass will run from February to April 2015. The deadline for applications is midday on Friday 16th January 2015. More information can be found on the Creative England website.
