Liverpool now UK’s second most filmed city
The City is Ours and House of Guinness among productions contributing to £150m boost
Liverpool is now the most filmed city outside of London, with production boosting the local economy by £150m since 2019, according to a report from the city’s film office.
More than 1,600 film and TV productions, including the BBC’s This City is Ours, Netflix’s House of Guinness and film The Batman, created more than 5,000 jobs in the past six years.
The Liverpool Film Office’s Impact Report demonstrates the impact of the Combined Authority’s £2.8m LCR Production Fund in increasing the number, range and scale of shows.
BBC series This City is Ours, The Responder and Time are among 10 supported productions that have collectively received 19 industry awards, including four Baftas and two International Emmys, and added £24.5m to the city region economy, creating 861 indirect full time equivalent jobs and 56 trainee roles.
In 2021, production studio The Depot launched with two purpose-built 20,000 ft² sound stages off Liverpool’s Edge Lane and has since generated £29.1m in gross value added for the city.
The city is also creating an adjacent Littlewoods Studio Campus featuring six sound stages, ScreenLab Liverpool and post-production facilities. The £70m project is expected to create 3,200 new jobs and generate £170m gross value added while providing education and training for young people.
