Alan Carr to front major Disney+ series

Clarkson’s Farm indie Expectation will follow the comedian’s plan to buy a castle

Alan Carr is to buy and run a historic castle in a major funny factual series from Expectation for Disney+.

The indie behind Clarkson’s Farm will track the comedian’s search, purchase and revamp of a stately home in Castle Man (w/t), which will air under the Hulu brand.

Carr said, “When some men they have a midlife crisis they buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home. As I turn fifty, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge.”

The series was commissioned out of the UK for Disney+ by Angela Jain, head of content, and Sean Doyle, vp, unscripted, EMEA.

Doyle described Carr as instantly bringing “warmth, wit, and originality to everything he touches”.

He said:” We’ve watched him turn his hand to stand-up, gameshows, podcast, and presenting, but when we discovered Alan was looking to purchase a castle to run, we knew this was a journey we had to follow. Expect Alan in new territory, with all the same riotous entertainment you know and love.”

The exec producers for Expectation are co-CEO Peter Fincham and creative director of entertainment Ben Wicks, plus Claire Walls and Danny Julian. Carr also serves as executive producer.

Wicks said: “What an incredible project: Alan Carr looking to buy a castle befitting his status as comedy royalty and a national treasure, and soon finding himself responsible for the very real, right royal pain of making it all work.”

Carr cemented his reputation with a star turn in the BBC/Studio Lambert’s The Celebrity Traitors towards the end of last year, and has co-hosted three series of a hit property renovation format for the BBC/Voltage under the Alan and Amanda’s… Job banner. He and Amanda Holden have revamped properties in Italy, Spain and Greece so far.
