Game of Thrones prequel begins filming Series Two
The aeries was renewed two months before Series One is due to debut on the streamer in January
Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms begins shooting on Series Two today, 8 December, in Belfast.
The fantasy drama, set almost a hundred years before Game of Thrones and based on the Dunk and Egg novellas by George R R Martin, was renewed by HBO ahead of the first series dropping in January. The second run will land in 2027.
Peter Claffey plays Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall in the show, with Dexter Sol Ansell as sidekick Egg. The supporting cast includes: Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Daniel Monks.
For Series One, the co-creator/executive producer is George R R Martin; the co-creator/showrunner/executive producer is Ira Parker. Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis executive produce and the directors are Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith.

The news of the series renewal was part of a joint announcement that a fourth season of Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, is also being greenlit, ahead of the third run dropping on the streamer next summer.
At the splashy HBO presser in NYC in November, where the news on both series’ green lights was confirmed, Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, head of HBO drama series and films, said: “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe.
“Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have so beautifully captured. And this Summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
