Netflix Roald Dahl Netflix has acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company (RDSC) in a partnership deal that will see the streamer create a unique universe across multiple genres.

The collaboration started three years ago with a slate of animated TV series, with one of the latest being Taika Waititi and Phil Johnson’s series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Production is also ongoing on a live-action feature version of the musical Matilda from Working Title Films, directed by Matthew Warchus.

Roald Dahl's books have been translated into 63 languages and sold more than 300 million copies worldwide. The streamer says it is committed to “maintaining their unique spirit and their universal themes of surprise and kindness, while also sprinkling some fresh magic into the mix.”

The new partnership will aim to build a storytelling universe across animated and live-action films and TV, publishing, games, immersive experiences, live theatre and consumer products.

Ten percent of the operating profit of The Roald Dahl Story Company Ltd goes to charities such as Partners in Health and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
