C4, Starz drama The Couple Next Door films in Leeds and Belgium
A new drama for Channel 4 and Starz, The Couple Next Door, has begun filming in Leeds and Belgium from Eagle Eye Drama, starring Sam Heughan, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jessica De Gouw And Alfred Enoch.
The six-part psychological thriller explores the claustrophobic nature of suburbia and the fallout of pursuing your darkest desires.
Set in a well-heeled neighborhood, the story centres on couple Evie and Pete (Tomlinson and Enoch), who find friendship with their neighbours, Becka and Danny (De Gouw and Heughan). But fateful infidelities ensue…
The drama is loosely based on Dutch series New Neighbours and is written by David Allison, directed by Dries Vos, series-produced by Jen Burnet, and executive produced by McGrath, Walter Iuzzolino and Alison Kee. The Couple Next Door is commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Drama, Caroline Hollick and Commissioning Editor, Rebecca Holdsworth. Karen Bailey, EVP of Programming, is the executive overseeing The Couple Next Door for STARZ.
Hollick, head of drama, Channel 4, said: “This series is an addictive, emotional roller-coaster with something to say about modern sexual mores, with an electrifying cast that will set our screens on fire.”
McGrath, CCO of Eagle Eye Drama, added: “At the heart of this series are two couples who get increasingly close to each other, and one fateful night become sexually entangled in a way that will change the rest of their lives forever. You never really know what goes on behind closed doors but this series sets out to make you wonder.”
Eagle Eye Drama specialises in adapting hit European dramas for English-speaking audiences, and is best known for Professor T and Before We Die – both of which also filmed largely in Belgium as well as the UK – and C4 thriller Suspect.
