A new crime thriller for Alibi and a period drama about child refugees begin filming in the UK this week.

Traces comes from Red Production Company and writer Amelia Bullmore.

Based on an original idea by best-selling crime writer Val McDermid, and set in the world of forensic science in Dundee, Traces is Alibi”s first UKTV original. It stars Molly Windsor, Laura Fraser, Martin Compston and Jennifer Spence.

Director Rebecca Gatward joins an all-female production team that includes executive producers for Red, Nicola Shindler and Michaela Fereday, and producer Juliet Charlesworth. The 6 x 60 films for around four months.

Cameras also begin rolling this week in Northern Ireland on The Children, a feature-length period drama for the BBC from Wall to Wall. The one-off piece explores different accounts of the Holocaust as seen through the eyes of three young refugees who arrive to live in the Lake District.
