Skyfall duo readying for TV drama series
The golden team of Sam Mendes and writer John Logan are collaborating once again, this time on a drama series for the small screen. The two famously worked on Bond’s 23rd outing, Skyfall, which broke UK box office records last year.
Penny Dreadful comes from Neal Street Productions, with two of the company’s founders, Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris executive producing along with Logan.
Described as “a psychosexual horror series”, the drama is set in Victorian London, and intertwines some of the most iconic characters in the literary genre, including Dracula and Dr. Frankenstein.
Already displaying quite a pedigree, the team behind Penny Dreadful have hired Juan Antonio Bayona as first block director, probably best known for The Impossible (2012) and The Orphanage (2007).
The drama has been ordered by Showtime, and will begin filming in late September. Eva Green and Josh Hartnett are the latest A-listers to be linked as leads.
