Stage Direction from LS-Live at The BRITs 2013

British pop sensation One Direction picked up the inaugural Global Success Award at The BRITs, shortly after performing from a pinball stage custom designed and built by LS-Live – a company that also collected an award the previous week for Favourite Staging Company at the TPi Awards.

The boy band gave an energetic performance of their Comic Relief single – a medley of ‘One Way Or Another’ by Blondie and The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks – from the giant pinball machine. The colourful centerpiece carried the gaming theme from their previous stage set on ITV’s The X Factor final – also designed and fabricated by LS-Live.

Said LS-Live Director Ben Brooks: “We successfully delivered a red ‘slide’ staging structure for the band in December for their X Factor performance, so production manager Kenny Underwood approached us again to develop the idea for a pinball themed show.

“It was based on a similar sloping aluminium and timber frame, but this time it had to be bigger and better.”

Almost 40’ long by 16’ wide, the pinball structure features in-built Barco NX-6 video screens – provided by XL Video and installed by LS-Live – underfoot on the slope and in the display headboard, with arrow-shaped, di-bond clad surrounds framed by LED DMX controllable tape light.

LS-Live’s in house designers liaised with the production team to make tweaks and adjustments to the overall look before the designs were brought to life in the LS-Live warehouse and delivered to the O2 Arena in three artics built by LS-Live crew. LS-Live also supplied custom fascias for the sides of the pinball with graphics saying ‘Zap’.
