Working on US TV drama in the UK

The Production Guild and the British Film Commission are hosting a training course about working on US high-end TV dramas filming in the UK.

With a record spend from inward investment projects in the UK in 2016, working on US TV drama is becoming a crucial part of many UK crew members” skillsets.

There can be many unfamiliar aspects for those employed on what is essentially an American set for the first time, such as cultural differences, size of budgets, length of working days and reporting to the showrunner.

The course runs from 18-19 February at Pinewood Studios and will look at the practicalities of running a US high-end TV drama in the UK and how the productions are successfully delivered to the US studios.

US production accountant Peter Tolle, whose credits include Nashville, Entourage and Nurse Jackie, is flying in from the US to lead the two-day training course, which is aimed at financial controllers, production accountants, line producers and production managers who have experience in US studio feature films or TV dramas and who would like to increase their knowledge; have experience in UK high end feature film and TV drama who would like to work on US shows, or would like to refresh their knowledge.

There is some funding for bursaries towards travel and accommodation costs for those successful applicants from the regions and nations.
