Timewasters doubles Liverpool for London

New ITV2 comedy Timewasters is set to shoot in Liverpool, doubling the city for London.

The 6 x 30 is written and created by Daniel Lawrence Taylor and comes from Big Talk Productions. The show follows on from the pilot, which centred on a struggling four-piece South London jazz band that travels back in time to the Roaring Twenties.

Writer/creator Taylor said at the time of the commission: “You don”t see that many black people in period dramas, or in time machines, so I thought I”d try to write about both. There are so many great people on board and I can”t wait to get started.”

It stars Taylor, Kadiff Kirwan, Adelayo Adedayo and Samson Kayo. Kenton Allen and Saurabh Kakkar exec produce, Josh Cole is producer and George Kane directs.

Filming begins in Liverpool in April; PI subscribers can log in for details on shoot dates, casting director, line producer and production designer.

Liverpool has a plethora of grand civic buildings which can easily double for other cityscapes. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them doubled the Merseyside city for 1920s New York during its only stint of non-studio filming in 2015, a year which saw Liverpool host 1,067 filming days, generating £11.5m for the local economy.

Plans are in place for Liverpool to get its own dedicated film studio on the site of the iconic art deco Littlewoods building.
