BBC One’s shiny new version of Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent is on track to start shooting in early autumn.

Set in London in 1886, it follows a plot by the Russian government to bomb the Greenwich Observatory – a mission to be carried out by Soho shopkeeper and secret agent Verloc.

The 3 x 60 drama, which comes from World Productions and producer Priscilla Parish, is based on Conrad’s 1907 novel. Charles McDougall directs the tale of anarchy, terrorism and espionage from a script by BAFTA-winning writer Tony Marchant (The Mark of Cain, Leaving, Holding On).
