The Killing Kind films at Bottle Yard, Bristol and London

The latest original UK drama commission for Paramount+’s burgeoning slate, The Killing Kind, has begun filming at the Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol with the assistance of The Bristol Film Office. Filming will later move to London

Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films produces the 6 x 45 drama, which is based on Jane Casey’s best-seller; it stars Emma Appleton and Colin Morgan.

Paula Cuddy, Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green exec-produce alongside Casey, working with lead director and writer Zara Hayes and writer Jonathan A.H Stewart.

The drama is part of Paramount+’s strategy to commission 150 international originals by 2025, and joins the streamer’s busy production slate that currently includes A Gentleman in Moscow, a Sexy Beast prequel series and The Burning Girls.

In The Killing Kind, Appleton (pictured, left) stars as top-flight barrister Ingrid Lewis with Colin Morgan (below, right) as John Webster, the man she successfully defended after he was accused of harassment and stalking. Once the trial ended, however, they became close and when she tried to end their relationship, he turned on her. The series picks up just as Lewis is starting to rebuild her life – until Webster shows up once again…

Emma Appleton said: “I’m delighted to be working with such a talented team on such a thrilling show. When I first read THE KILLING KIND script I was so intrigued by Ingrid and the twists and turns we take as the story goes on.”

Colin MorganColin Morgan explained: “Getting the opportunity to explore a more dark and complex role with John Webster has been enlightening and such fun.

“Working with the brilliant Emma Appleton has already been such a highlight, along with the rest of the incredible cast. The story had me hooked from page one and I am looking forward to seeing it play out on screen.”

Cuddy and Gutierrez added: “We are delighted to have attracted such an outstanding cast on THE KILLING KIND and thrilled to commence production on this premium ‘Popcorn TV’ drama for Paramount+, with a fantastic production team – and with the brilliant director Zara Hayes at the helm.”
