The Bay 5 starts Lancashire shoot

Marsha Thomason

Production has begun in Lancashire on the fifth series of The Bay, ITV’s crime drama set and filmed in Morecambe Bay.

Tall Story Pictures produces the show that first aired in spring 2019.

Daragh Carville is the writer/creator; the Northern Irish-born writer lives in Lancashire and regularly describes the beauty of the place, as he makes the story setting a vital part of the narrative and almost a character in its own right.

Marsha Thomason returns as DS Jenn Townsend in the fifth series; the 6 x 60’ series will film for nearly four months.

When the recommission was confirmed earlier this year, executive producer Catherine Oldfield of Tall Story Pictures said: “Daragh and I couldn’t be happier to be heading back to Morecambe with Marsha and the team for another case. “We love making the show and so we’re delighted to be producing another series for ITV and viewers at home and abroad.”

The fifth series will see the latest case for Morecambe MIU focusing on the emotionally complex life of a divided family.
