Sky orders Dyers’ Caravan Park Christmas special

Expectation behind festive commission

Sky has ordered a Christmas special of its reality entertainment title The Dyers’ Caravan Park, following the show’s first series earlier this year, Broadcast can reveal.

Clarkson’s Farm producer Expectation is behind the 1 x 45-minute The Dyers’ Caravan Park: A Merry Elfing Christmas, starring actor Danny Dyer and his daughter Dani.

The six-part first series on Sky 1 and Now saw the pair invest in and run a holiday caravan park. It has been recommissioned for a second series next year.

The festive instalment in December will see Danny and Dani attempt to give the 200 residents a huge festive celebration before the park closes its gates for winter.

As well as organising a slap-up Christmas lunch, a staff Christmas party at the local curry house and building a Santa’s grotto, they will hand site director Darren the task of writing and directing a nativity featuring some special guests.

Series one averaged 102,000 (1.1%) overnight viewers on Sky 1 in the 9pm Tuesday slot in February and March, against an 84,000 (0.8%) benchmark. This picked up to a consolidated figure of 293,000 (2.1%) after 28 days.

Executive producer Ben Wicks, who is Expectation’s creative director of entertainment, said: “After how well series one of The Dyers’ Caravan Park went down, we’re delighted to be back so soon to capture Danny and Dani bringing the residents and staff together for a truly unforgettable Christmas – so full of warmth, anarchy and seasonal revelry it will have the team at Lapland quitting in shame and moving to the Isle of Sheppey.”

The Dyers’ Caravan Park was ordered by executive director of unscripted originals at Sky Phil Edgar-Jones for Cécile Frot-Coutaz, chief executive of Sky Studios and chief content officer for Sky.

The commissioning editor for Sky is Shirley Jones and Carly Brown serves as production executive for Sky.

The exec producers are Jordan Read and Ben Wicks while Pete Deagle is series director, Alex Gilman is series producer, Ish Kalia is series editor, Denise Kadoo is production executive and the production manager is Katharine Allen.
