Second series for Poldark, Fortitude and Prey

The greenlight has flashed on second series for three major dramas, Poldark, Fortitude and Prey.

Mammoth Screen‘s update of the classic period drama Poldark has proved a ratings hit for the indie and BBC One – even before Aidan Turner took to topless scything – with viewing figures for Q1 showing the highest share for the channel in a decade: 25.2% during peak.

The second series is once again penned by seasoned TV writer Debbie Horsfield and is this time based on the third and fourth books in the Poldark canon. The 8 x 60 has a different shooting schedule from last time around – details can be found on Production Intelligence.

It will come as no great surprise that the icy crime thriller Fortitude also gets another run – executive producer Patrick Spence had commented at an industry event that the door had been left deliberately open.

The chilly mystery is from Spence’s shingle Fifty Fathoms, Tiger Aspect and Sky Atlantic and is written by Simon Donald, who also executive produces alongside Spence, Frith Tiplady, Anne Mensah and Lizzie Gray. Shoot dates have yet to be set, but the channel must be hoping that the second series of 10 x 60 will emulate the average of 1.69m viewers, making it the most successful original commission for Sky Atlantic.

ITV’s high-octane drama Prey will once again come from screenwriter Chris Lunt, but this time with a totally different story. Rosie Cavaliero reprises her role as DS Susan Reinhardt, and will be joined by Philip Glenister as Prison Office David Murdoch.

Prey 2 is from Red Production Company and will be filmed in Salford, Blackpool and Manchester; start dates can be found on Production Intelligence along with the name of the casting director. Tom Sherry produces; Lewis Arnold directs.
