SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP to resume talks on Wednesday

Deadpool Having concluded a day of talks on Monday, 2 October, SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will meet around the negotiating table again tomorrow, Wednesday, 4 October, in LA.

Monday’s discussions, described in a joint release from the two parties as “a full day bargaining session” were the first contract talks held in over two months; the strike began on 23 July this year.

As reported on our sister site, Screen, attendees earlier this week included studio and streamer heads Donna Langley (NBCUniversal), Bob Iger, (Disney), Ted Sarandos (Netflix) and David Zaslav (Warner Bros Discovery), who were also part of last week’s successful talks to resolve the WGA labour dispute.

The implications of using AI images of an actor in perpetuity after one single payment, and the issue of residual payments since the advent of streamers, are two of the key sticking points in the negotiations.

The knock-on effect of the dual strikes has been significant, with a tranche of major inward-investment productions paused during production or pre-production due to the action.
