Red Dwarf crew on board for November shoot

The crew of the Red Dwarf spaceship is assembling, in every way, ready to start filming series XI and XII in early November.

Filming on the two runs will take place back to back, with cameras due to roll for five months in total; the studio details will be on Production Intelligence, along with key hires such as the production manager and casting director.

Broadcaster Dave ordered the two new series earlier this year from co-producers Grant Naylor Productions and Baby Cow Productions; the writer/director on both is Doug Naylor. Henry Normal executive produces for Baby Cow, working alongside UKTV‘s Simon Lupton. Richard Naylor and Kerry Waddell series produce.

The four lead actors – Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn – reprise their roles in the cult comedy, which has garnered several gongs including an International Emmy.

Red Dwarf ran on BBC Two from 1988-1993 and 1997-1999, peaking with a massive 8 million viewers at the start of series VIII. Dave provided a new home for the show in 2009 and 2012; at its height the revival amassed around 2.3 million viewers on the comedy channel.
