Production underway in Scotland on new iteration of Rebus

Richard RankinFilming is due to get underway around now on the new iteration of Edinburgh-set crime drama Rebus, starring Richard Rankin, for delivery to Viaplay.

The reboot is from producers Eleventh Hour Films, and comprises 6 x 60’ episodes, written by Gregory Burke.

The series will follow Detective Inspector Rebus (played by Outlander actor Rankin) as he is faced with major changes in both his work and personal life.

Niall MacCormick directs; the series marks the UK drama debut commission for Nordic streamer Viaplay.

Rankin, unrelated to the famous Rebus author Ian Rankin, said at the time of the casting announcement: “I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of Rebus. I’m a big fan of the series and Sir Ian Rankin. I feel very lucky to be given the honour of bringing such an iconic Scottish character back to TV screens and will give all I have to do it justice.”

Author Rankin backed the actor, saying “He’s the perfect fit for the role, and not just because we coincidentally share the same surname.”

Eleventh Hour Films is also busy elsewhere, as filming is due to end soon on The Killing Kind for Paramount+ and is wrapping around now on the third series of Alex Rider.
