Paramount+ continues UK drama drive with The Killing Kind

Paramount+ has continued to ramp up its slate of original UK drama commissions with an order for a series adaptation of Jane Casey’s best-seller, The Killing Kind.

Eleventh Hour Films is making the 6 x 60 drama, with filming set to begin in January.

Casey’s novel centres on successful barrister Ingrid Lewis who, well-used to dealing with difficult clients, finds herself locked in a game of cat and mouse after becoming too close to a clever, handsome client whom she successfully defended against charges of coercive control.

The executive producers for the series are Paula Cuddy, Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green for Eleventh Hour Films, writer-director Zara Hayes, writer Jonathan AH Stewart and author Jane Casey. Andy Litvin produces; Zara Hayes is lead director, helming episodes 1-3.

Cuddy and Gutierrez said: “EHF is delighted to be joining forces with Paramount+ to bring Jane Casey’s brilliant book to screen. We were totally gripped by the story of Defence Barrister Ingrid Lewis whose world is turned upside down when she gets too close to her client and are beyond thrilled to have Zara & Jonathan in the driving seat writing the adaptation. And with Zara as the lead director this will be must-see ‘popcorn’ Event TV.”

The Killing Kind is the latest in a tranche of original UK drama commissions from the new streamer, with recently-announced productions including A Gentleman in Moscow, The Ex-Wife, The Flatshare, Sexy Beast. No Escape and The Burning Girls.
