NBCUniversal’s new Jurassic World movie will begin filming at Sky Studios Elstree later this year, directed by Gareth Edwards.

Dana Strong, Sky Group CEO, said: “We’re delighted that the Chancellor called ‘Cut’ today on TV and Film studio business rates, providing vital tax relief to enable the UK’s world-class film and TV production sector to continue to thrive.

“Today’s announcement brings confidence to the sector, unlocking job opportunities whilst providing a stable foundation for the investments of tomorrow in the UK, such as our proposal for Sky Studios Elstree North and the filming of NBCUniversal’s Jurassic 4.”

Director Edwards had referred to the movie in a quote earlier on in the day, responding to the government’s 40% tax uplift for UK films with budgets up to £15m, although he said it would shoot at a studio “just outside London”. The last Jurassic franchise generated over 2,000 jobs and £180m of spend in the UK.

Sky Studios Elstree has already hosted the two-part feature Wicked and Paddington 3, and has plans to expand with Sky Studios Elstree North, which will create an estimated 2000 jobs and raise £2bn production revenue for the UK in its first five years.
