Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman due to begin UK shoot for Netflix
Filming is due to begin today, 23 June, on the second series of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman for Netflix, with production once again based at Shepperton Studios.
It was unclear at the time of going to press whether the start date had been affected by the WGA strike.
The drama is adapted from Gaiman’s series of graphic novels that ran from 1989-1996, published by DC Comics.
It centres on an anthropomorphic family called The Endless, each of whom represents different sides of the human condition. Tom Sturridge stars with a supporting cast including Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong and Boyd Holbrook.
Gaiman (pictured above), Allan Heinberg and David S Goyer developed the adaptation for Netflix; it is produced by Warner Bros. Television, DC Entertainment, Gaiman’s The Blank Corporation and Goyer’s Phantom Four Films. Jamie Childs directs.
Shooting on Series One was delayed due to the pandemic: having been due to begin in late spring of 2020, it eventually began principal photography a few months later in the autumn, with filming limited to the UK for the same reason.
Production was based at Shepperton with locations including Canary Wharf, Guildford Cathedral, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Scotney Castle, the Natural History Museum and Sandbanks in Poole.
