Filming starts this week on the fifth series of BBC One”s London-set crime drama Luther with Idris Elba as the eponymous cop.

The show”s creator Neil Cross has written the series as a 4 x 60 and the drama is made in-house by BBC Studios with BBC America on board as a co-producer.

Elba and Cross executive produce alongside Marcus Wilson, Hilary Salmon and Elizabeth Kilgarriff.

The series has won several gongs with Elba scooping a Critics” Choice Television Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for his performance.

When the commission was first confirmed, Cross said: “What happened to John Luther after we last saw him striding unbowed through the streets of his city – his blood-red London? It can”t be over, can it? There”s so much we don”t know. So much unfinished business.”
