Clapperboard drama The Game set for second series

Cat and mouse thriller from Clapperboard The Game is returning to 5 for a second series.

Set a year after series one, former detective Huw (played by Jason Watkins) believes he has finally escaped the psychological grip of serial killer Patrick (Robson Green) after surviving a brutal stabbing which saw Patrick behind bars.

Retreating with his wife Alice to an isolated house by the sea, Huw is rebuilding a quiet life when he realises that peace is an illusion.

The Game, produced by Clapperboard in association with distributor Sphere Abacus, made a strong start when it launched in May last year, drawing an overnight audience of 1.2m (11.2%). It became one of the channel’s top performing dramas of the year, with its opener achieving 2.8m in 28 days.

The second series was ordered by Paul Testar, 5’s commissioning editor for drama who will exec produce with deputy chief content officer Sebastian Cardwell. Rachel Gesua will also exec produce alongside managing director for Clapperboard Mike Benson and Sphere Abacus’ Jonathan Ford and Will Stapley.

Toby Frow and Tom Grieves return as director and writer respectively.

Testar said: “The Game was one of 5’s top preforming dramas of 2025 and we are delighted to be working with Clapperboard and Sphere Abacus again to bring a second series of this dark thriller to our screens with our brilliant leads Jason Watkins and Robson Green returning.”

The series has started filming and is due to air on 5 later this year.
