Harry Potter TV series sets Succession pair as showrunner and director

HBO’s much-anticipated forthcoming Harry Potter TV series has set two Succession alumni as writer and director.

Francesca Gardiner, best known for Succession, His Dark Materials and Killing Eve, will be writer/showrunner and executive producer while Mark Mylod, also known for Succession as well as Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, will direct multiple episodes and exec produce.

The other executive producers are JK Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films who produced the feature films. It is an HBO series produces in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.

The series will stick to the original source material of Rowling’s global best-sellers in what is described as “a faithful adaptation”.

JK Rowling said on X: “I’m truly thrilled to announce our director and writer, both of whom I interviewed as part of the production team. Both have a genuine passion for Harry Potter, and having read Francesca’s pilot script and heard Mark’s vision, I’m certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations.”
