September is off to a busy start as filming begins today (7th September) on five new scripted projects in the UK, ranging from returning small screen period dramas to a high octane Hollywood feature film.

Principal photography gets underway today on the untitled Bourne 5 feature, with Paul Greengrass calling the shots at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Matt Damon is back as the titular spy, joined by Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel. Greece and the US are also lined up as locations for the Universal film, which we have been following with interest since March on Production Intelligence.

As we detailed on The Knowledge in mid-August, a nostalgic drama telling the story behind one of the best loved comedies of all time is due to air at Christmas on BBC Two. Cameras start rolling today in Belfast on The Making of Dad’s Army, which was officially announced at The Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival a fortnight after we first detailed it on PI. The two-week shoot takes place entirely in Northern Ireland on locations including Cultra Manor in County Down, Broadcasting House and the Ulster Reform Club in Belfast. John Sessions plays Arthur Lowe with Julian Sands at John Le Mesurier.

Doctor Thorne is the first of three period dramas that begins filming today. The Anthony Trollope adaptation from Julian Fellowes is based at Elstree Studios, but will be taking in a broad sweep of locations around England including London, Wrotham, Knebworth House, Dorney Court, Laycock and Castle Combe. The 3 x 60 is from Hat Trick Productions for ITV.

Poldark‘s second series is officially up and running today, with the production office once again at Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios; locations include Bristol and, of course, Cornwall. Specific locations are somewhat under wraps at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for Aidan Turner, scythe in hand…

And to round off the clutch of scripted projects getting underway today is the second run of Home Fires, the WWII-set drama from ITV Studios about an inspirational group of Women’s Institute members in a rural Cheshire community. The production office is in Cheshire, with filming locations including Bunbury.
