Filming starts on Robin Wright’s The Girlfriend for Prime Video
Production begins today, Monday, 24 June, on new Prime Video drama The Girlfriend, directed by and starring Robin Wright; Olivia Cooke also stars with supporting cast including Laurie Davidson and Waleed Zuaitar.
The series, based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name, follows Laura (Wright), whose seemingly perfect life is disrupted when her son Daniel introduces Cherry (Cooke) as his girlfriend. Laura becomes suspicious of Cherry, believing she may not be who she claims to be.
The series will consist of five episodes filmed in the UK, primarily in London, with an additional episode shot in Spain. It is a joint production between Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with Caroline Norris as series producer.
At the time of the commissioning news, Jonathan Cavendish of Imaginarium said of the project: “Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke are the perfect pairing for this tangled, spiraling thriller, and The Imaginarium is excited to have the best partner in Amazon MGM Studios.”
Amazon MGM Studios recently took up nine stages at the newly expanded Shepperton Studios and currently has two major features in production in the UK, Project Hail Mary and Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie.
