Production gets underway in the south-east this week (w/c 29 July) on Pillion, a new feature from the producers of Poor Things, starring Harry Potter actor Harry Melling and Succession’s Alexander Skarsgård.

The film marks the debut feature from UK director Harry Lighton, who is calling the shots from his own screenplay, an adaption of Adam Mars-Jones’ book, Box Hill.

The film follows the relationship between Colin, an introverted, shy young man (Melling) and Ray (Skarsgård), the handsome leader of a kinky, queer motorbike club.

Andrew Lowe, Emma Norton and Ed Guiney produce for Element Pictures alongside Lee Groombridge. Pillion is backed by BBC Film, which developed the project, and the BFI; the executive producers are Skarsgård, BBC Film’s Eva Yates, Clare Binns for distributor Picturehouse and Pim Hermeling for Netherlands-based September Films.

HoDs include cinematographer Nick Morris, production designer Francesca Massariol, costume designer Grace Snell, composer Oliver Coates and casting director Kahleen Crawford.

Element Pictures is also busy in production on Yorgos Lanthimos’ new feature, Bugonia, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, which recently began filming in the south-east.
