Film London increases Microwave investment
Film London has increased its investment to its Microwave scheme to £2m. Aimed at supporting new filmmaking talent, the increased funding forms part of a new partnership with the BFI and support from regular partners BBC Films and Creative Skillset.
The latest scheme will support 36 filmmaking teams over the course of three years, with the £2m investment going into the training, the development and the financing of a new generation of talent.
This time round the scheme – which first launched in 2006 and has since helped films like Shifty and Ill Manors hit the big screen – will give moviemakers a more intensive period of development to hone scripts, stories and skills. Six features will go on to be made, each with budgets of £150k, with further funding ring fenced to support distribution. The scheme will also work hard to increase the number of black, asian, minority ethnic (BAME) filmmakers.
Adrian Wootton, chief executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said: “We are delighted to be launching the next phase of Film London Microwave. Its unique set up, providing funding, training and access to industry mentors, has proved to be a hugely successful combination and I am delighted we are able to offer this fantastic scheme again, thanks to a new partnership with the BFI and support from existing partners BBC Films and Creative Skillset.”
The call for applications will open later this month. To stay updated, visit the Film London Microwave website.
