Evolutions rescues Editworks with last-minute deal
Full service post-production company Evolutions has concluded a deal that will see the creative and technical team from Editworks re-launch the Light Entertainment and Comedy facility within its Berners Street HQ.
The new Editworks will operate as a standalone boutique brand inside Evolutions, supplying picture editing and sound dubbing services to existing and new TV producer clients, but utilising Evolutions” equipment, suites and engineering capabilities.
Editors Mark Sangster and Perry Widdowson and dubbing mixer Adrian Smith are all involved in the new venture along with a further seven technical, support and client liaison staff from Editworks. Commenting on the deal, Evolutions owner and managing director Simon Kanjee said: “Editworks is a highly respected brand that has great staff and a reputation for creative and technical excellence. When it became clear that there was an opportunity to bring Mark, Perry, Adrian and their team to Evolutions we jumped at it. This deal not only provides continuity for Editworks staff and clients but also adds new skills and ideas to Evolutions’; capabilities.”
Sangster added: “Although we’;ve been rivals in the past, with our strong entertainment television backgrounds there’;s a real synchronicity between the two companies. By joining up with Evolutions we can maintain our identity and build on our heritage backed by a bigger, more efficient organisation.”

The original Editworks, based on Charlotte Street, was one of Soho’;s longest standing post-production facilities. Formed in 1988 as part of Complete Communications, the company was sold to its management team in 2000. The company ceased trading earlier this month citing a combination of rising business overheads and reduced post-production budgets.
