E4 doc follows Made in Chelsea’s Sam Vanderpump awaiting liver transplant

UTAS UK will follow Sam Vanderpump as he welcomes son while waiting for life-saving treatment

E4 cameras will follow Made in Chelsea star Sam Vanderpump as he navigates life following a life-threatening diagnosis.

Made in Chelsea: Sam Vanderpump’s Story is a 2 x 60-minute doc following the celebrity and his wife Alice’s lives as he waits for a live-saving liver transplant amid preparations for the arrival of their baby son.

Two years ago, Vanderpump survived a near-fatal sepsis infection caused by a rare genetic condition he was born with. He managed to get through that challenging recovery, before being diagnosed last year with end-stage liver disease, which brought a sense of urgency and clarity for the couple.

The doc captures the couple’s most intimate milestones, from their wedding, the arrival of their son and his wait for a transplant. It will also feature his mum, his aunt and star of Vanderpump Rules’, Lisa Vanderpump, and the couple’s tight-knit Chelsea circle.

Made in Chelsea: Sam Vanderpump’s Story is produced by UTAS UK Productions and was commissioned by Clemency Green, senior commissioning editor. It is exec produced by Leonie Joss. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle global sales.

Green said: “We hope this documentary sheds some light on the heartbreaking journey people often face as they wait for a donor. It is a privilege that Sam will allow our viewers to follow his own experience with the process, as well as his and Alice’s most special moments.

“This documentary isn’t just for fans of Made in Chelsea, this is an insight into the joy and hope that can live alongside the painful realities of living life with an end-stage disease.”

Personal chapter

Helen Kruger Bratt, managing director of UTAS UK Productions, added: “Sam and Alice have allowed us into an incredibly personal chapter of their lives with honesty, courage and real generosity.

“This documentary will help shine a light on the realities of organ donation and the experiences of those living on the donor list. We’re incredibly proud that Sam trusted us with his story and to be partnering with Channel 4 to tell it.”

Made in Chelsea: Sam Vanderpump’s Story will air in the spring on E4.
