The first images of Rose Ayling-Ellis drama Code of Silence have been released by ITV; the series began filming last autumn largely in Hertfordshire locations, including St Albans.

The 6 x 60’ thriller is produced by Mammoth Screen and created by Catherine Moulton, who drew on her own experiences with hearing loss and lip-reading. The cast and crew were diverse, including those from the deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse communities.

Ayling-Ellis plays Alison Brooks, a clever and determined Deaf woman who has worked for years in a police canteen, observing conversations. Her lip-reading skills catch the attention of DS Ashleigh Francis (Charlotte Ritchie) and DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan) and she is recruited for an undercover operation – to surveil a dangerous gang as they plan a major heist.

Kieron Moore, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, Joe Absolom, Beth Goddard, Andrew Scarborough, Rolf Choutan, Fifi Garfield and John Bishop are among the supporting cast.

Jospeh Shrubb produces for Mammoth Screen; Diarmuid Goggins and Chanya Button direct three episodes each. Writers Will Truefitt and Benji Walters penned episodes three and four.

The executive producers of Code of Silence are Bryony Arnold and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, alongside Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox, as well as Ayling-Ellis and Moulton. Mammoth Screen is part of ITV Studios, which will distribute the series internationally.
