The six-week shoot takes place on Anglesey and other north Wales locations.

Filming begins this week on Anglesey (w/c 12 August) on Madfabulous, starring Callum Scott Howells as flamboyant aristocrat Henry Cyril Paget. Other locations being used include Caernarfon and Pwllheli.

Paget was the fifth Marquess of Anglesey, who was renowned during the late 19th century for his refusal to conform to societal protocols; instead choosing to squander his fortune on a lavish social life and dancing like a butterfly in voluminous white robes.

By June 1904, Paget’s debts had accumulated (he owed the equivalent of £70m) and he was declared bankrupt. He died the following year at the age of 29, and is buried at the church on his Anglesey estate.

Madfabulous comes from Mad As Birds Films and is directed by Celyn Jones, whose recent credits include The Almond and the Seahorse; Jones is calling the shots from a screenplay by Lisa Baker. Supporting cast includes Rupert Everett, Ruby Stokes, Paul Rhys, Louis Hynes, Louise Brealey and Tom Rhys-Harries.

Nadia Jaynes and Sean Marley produce with Nicola Pearcey exec-ing. The feature is supported by Ffilm Cymru Wales and the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.

Director Jones said at the time of the film’s announcement: “Callum is the perfect actor for this role, a versatile and charismatic performer with a rockstar appeal… I’m sure Henry would approve. It’s a dream to be going back home to Anglesey to make this film, Lisa has written a fabulous script and I’m loving the creative team that’s gathering to help me tell this iconic tale about the original 20th century boy.”

North Wales’ appeal as a production hub is growing, consolidated by the opening of Anglesey’s Aria Film Studios early last year.
