Ben Wheatley first original TV drama films in Wales

Generation ZWriter/director Ben Wheatley’s latest project, a dark zombie comedy for Channel 4 called Generation Z, is currently in production in Wales

An extensive and starry cast includes Johnny Vegas, Robert James-Collier, Suzanne Ahmet, Sue Johnston, Anita Dobson, Robert Lindsay, T’Nia Miller, Lewis Gribben, Jay Lycurgo, Buket Komur, Viola Prettejohn Andrew Kazamia and Mark Monero, among others.

The Forge produces the 6 x 60’ series, that explores community breakdown, satirising some of the issues facing today’s teenagers and the generational divide.

Alex Kazamia produces; the series is exec produced by Ben Wheatley, Mark Pybus, George Faber and Beth Willis and marks Wheatley’s first original TV drama.

Generation ZSet in the fictional town of Dambury, events spiral when an overturned army truck begins to leak dangerous chemicals outside a care home – with an adverse effect on the residents who begin to experience an insatiable hunger for raw flesh…

Wheatley said: “It’s been amazing working on Generation Z with The Forge and Channel 4. It’s my first original series and a project very close to my heart. I hope everyone loves it as much as we do.”

C4 commissioning editor Rebecca Holdsworth added: “We are so excited that Ben Wheatley has chosen C4 as the place to make his first original TV drama. Generation Z promises to have all of the unique visual flair and mischievous spirit that characterises Ben’s film work; it is in turn wickedly funny, deftly political, and delivers on the kind of eye-popping shocks and thrills that mean this is shaping up to be a zombie drama like no other.”
