BBC Scotland orders Susan Boyle documentary

Singer will recount her life in single There’s Only One Susan Boyle (w/t)

Susan Boyle’s life and career will be explored in an upcoming doc by Tern TV for BBC Scotland.

There’s Only One Susan Boyle (w/t) is a 45-minute single that will feature an exclusive interview with Boyle, who discusses her childhood in Blackburn, Scotland, through to the Britain’s Got Talent audition that changed her life and the surreal years that followed as she embarked on a successful singing career.

Boyle became an overnight sensation in 2009 when she stunned Simon Cowell and his equally cynical panel of BGT judges with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream, which instantly went viral on YouTube and catapulted her to global stardom.

Tern’s doc will also feature insight and anecdotes from her friends, collaborators and fans, as well as archive footage and personal photographs.

There’s Only One Susan Boyle (w/t) was commissioned for BBC Scotland and BBC Popular Music Television. It is executive produced by David Marshall, and directed by Rod Tamime. BBC commissioners are Heather Kane-Darling for BBC Scotland and Rachel Davies for Popular Music Television.

Production is underway on the single, which is expected to air over the festive season.

Marshall said: “More than a decade and a half since she first wowed the nation, Susan’s story continues to inspire, and in her own words we get to hear how that one moment in time, changed her life forever and has made her a true national treasure.”

Kane-Darling added: “Susan Boyle’s story is one of the most remarkable and uplifting to come out of Scotland in recent decades. From a small town in West Lothian to stages around the world, her journey has inspired millions. This warm, honest and entertaining portrait of a truly unique Scottish talent will be a festive treat for our audiences.”
