BBC orders Cunk On Cinema mockumentary with Diane Morgan and Charlie Brooker

Diane Morgan character delve into the world of movies

The BBC has ordered another Cunk On… mockumentary series starring Diane Morgan and Charlie Brooker creation Philomena Cunk.

The 3 x 30-minute Cunk On Cinema will see the quirky investigative reporter examine the history of movies with a string of experts. Produced by Pacesetter Productions for BBC2 and Netflix outside of the UK and Ireland, the show is written by Black Mirror scribe Brooker.

Brooker will also exec produce alongside Morgan, Sam Ward, Jessica Rhoades and Mark Kinsella for Pacesetter Productions.

The director is Al Campbell and the commissioning editor is Navi Lamba.

It follows several Cunk On… series and one-offs, most recently the special Cunk On Life which aired in December 2024 for an overnight audience of 812,000 (6.3%). The 2022 five-parter Cunk On Earth went to Netflix from 2023, following 2018’s five-parter Cunk On Britain.

Brooker said: “Now that Sora has killed off Hollywood and itself (presumably as part of a murder-suicide pact), it’s the perfect time to look back at two hundred centuries of cinema, in the company of an idiot we’re apparently cursed to employ: Philomena Cunk.”

BBC comedy director Jon Petrie added: “As our leading intrepid documentary filmmaker, who better to investigate the world of cinema?

“This series follows in the hugely successful footsteps of other Cunk projects, so we can’t wait to see what she unearths this time around. A huge thank you to the incredibly talented team at Pacesetter, Diane and Charlie for bringing Philomena back onto our screens.”

Morgan also has an upcoming BBC1 sitcom Ann Droid and has recently starred in Prime Video’s Last One Laughing series two and the fourth series of her sitcom Mandy.
