TV dramas in the can

Last week we looked at some of the feature films that have recently finished filming in the UK, and this week it’s the turn of television. Here we take a peek at some of the dramas that are heading for the post-production suite.

A Stephen Poliakoff drama is always ‘event TV’, and Close to the Enemy promises a musical drama set against the backdrop of WWII, which filmed over four months in Liverpool, London and Manchester.

Hollywood actor Rob Lowe has been busy in the UK working on You, Me & The Apocalypse. The comedy drama for Sky took in South African and Maltese locations, as well as London sites such as Mansion House and Greenford cemetery.

Hugh Laurie has been back on his old stomping ground, joining Tom Hiddleston and a stellar cast in The Night Manager, the latest John Le Carré spy novel to be adapted for the small screen. The chunky six-parter filmed on various European locations, with the UK fielding London and Devon as backdrops.

Cameras also stopped rolling recently on ITV Studios’ new version of Jekyll & Hyde, updated to 1930s London. Tom Bateman plays the doctor with the split personality in the 10-parter, which also filmed in Sri Lanka.

Filming on the second series of Kudos’ The Tunnel ends this week, concluding a five month shoot in Kent and France. This run of the UK/French co-production centres on an airliner which crashes into the English Channel.

And to finish off our peek at the recent/any-day-now wraps, we have a few returners, including the third series of Shetland, set on the remote Scottish archipelago with some filming done on the mainland; the Belfast-set police corruption drama Line of Duty, which also completed shooting on series 3, and the seventh series of the famously Cornwall-set comedy drama, Doc Martin. This run promises a stellar Hollywood cameo, as no one less than Sigourney Weaver has been spotted on set. Maybe a case of “In Port Isaac, no one can hear you scream…”

This is just a taster of the many TV dramas we have covered extensively on Production Intelligence over the last few months. If you don’t already subscribe, click here for a demo.
