Introduction to Location Management

The Production Guild is holding a two-day course on 25 and 26 April to help those interested in a career in film and TV location management.

Downton Abbey

To be held at Pinewood Studios, the course will be run by renowned location manager Harriet Lawrence, whose credits include Suffragette, Burton and Taylor, Downton Abbey and Dancing on the Edge.

Introduction to Location Management aims to provide a detailed insight into all aspects of the role, including script breakdown, working with directors and designers, scouting locations and planning the shoot.

Towards the end of the two-day session, there will be a talk on how to be a successful and useful member of the department on set, taught by 1st AD Lydia Currie, who has worked on productions such as The Man Who Knew Infinity and 24: Live Another Day.

Perhaps the role and the course is best summed up by Lawrence herself: “The location department has a wide and varied remit within a film production; it’s not glamorous but it is fun and an essential part of the overall film-making process. This course will give you a comprehensive introduction to working in the location department and the confidence to launch your location career in film and TV drama production.”

The cost of this two-day intensive course at Pinewood Studios is £327.60 (inc VAT). Applicants should demonstrate a keenness and desire to work in the locations department.

The closing date for applications is 10 April 2015. For more information and an application form, click here.
