An action thriller starring Michael Keaton is setting up to film in the UK later this year.

American Assassin is a feature from CBS Films and Lionsgate in LA, and stars Keaton as a Cold War veteran now working for the CIA who teaches protagonist Mitch Rapp – the assassin of the title – all he needs to know about undercover counter-terrorist operations.

Stephen Schiff has adapted Vince Flynn”s novel of the same name for the big screen; the producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler. Some of the shoot will take place in Italy.

American Assassin is the latest in a raft of bumper US features set to take advantage of the UK”s attractive tax incentives, crew and locations. Others listed on PI include Mary Poppins Returns; the untitled Jurassic World sequel; Spielberg”s Ready Player One; the Liam Neeson-starrer The Commuter; WWII drama Atlantic Wall; Cruella and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (both for Disney).
