BBC One”s new two-part adaptation of Agatha Christie”s The Witness for the Prosecution is set to film in Liverpool later this summer.

For Christmas transmission, the 2 x 60 comes from prolific producer Mammoth Screen and seasoned writer Sarah Phelps whose previous Christie collaboration, And Then There Were None, was part of BBC One”s festive line-up last Christmas.

The Witness for the Prosecution is a play adapted by Christie from her short story. The courtroom drama centres on the murder of a wealthy woman, for which her heir is subsequently arrested. The most famous version to date was the 1957 feature directed by Billy Wilder and starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton.

The best-selling crime writer is clearly in vogue at the moment, with Kenneth Branagh”s big screen version of Murder on the Orient Express currently setting up for a UK shoot at the end of this year.
