Griff Rhys Jones produces Nye Bevan drama
Griff Rhys Jones is making quite a name for himself as an independent producer with his Cardiff-based shingle Modern Television.
Rhys Jones’ work to date has a Welsh leaning: his company made the BAFTA-nominated and critically acclaimed drama A Poet in New York starring Tom Hollander as Dylan Thomas.
That piece was written by superscribe Andrew Davies, also the pen behind upcoming feature length drama, A Nation’s Health, executive produced by Rhys Jones for Modern. The 90 minute film is being developed in association with BBC Cymru Wales, and looks at the marriage of Aneurin Bevan, founder of the NHS and his wife Jennie Lee, mainly between the years 1943 and 1948.
BBC Cymru Wales have plenty lined up: due for transmission in the New Year is their adaptation of the epic War and Peace (another Davies credit). Also on the slate is Russell T Davies’ version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, first detailed on Production Intelligence in early July, which begins a five week shoot at Roath Lock later this month; production personnel details on PI now.
Also lined up for production early next year from BBC Cymru Wales is To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters, a feature length drama about Bronte sisters’ difficult relationship with their brother Branwell; a producer and director are already on board.ÂÂ
